Residence Life

IMPORTANT: McKendree will no longer provide microwaves or refrigerators beginning in 2010-2011.

McKendree suggests that residents in Baker, Barnett, Walton, and The Suites use no more than 1200 watts on the low receptacles(the outlet used for microfridges). Due to this limitation, we recommend refrigerators and microwaves running on a total of 900 watts. Rooms are limited to one refrigerator and one microwave.  Full size refrigerators are not allowed.

Mission

The Office of Residence Life plays a vital role in supporting the academic mission of McKendree University by creating an atmosphere that encourages personal, social, and academic development. We will promote a clean, safe, well-maintained living environment that allows students the opportunity to study and learn about living in a community. We will foster self-responsibility, trust, and respect for others and provide an atmosphere which is comfortable and accepting. The Residence Life program is designed to promote the holistic development of students through both planned and spontaneous activities.

What are Living Learning Communities?

Living Learning Communities create and extend student learning opportunities outside of the classroom that heighten student intellectual and personal growth. Living Learning Communities are purposeful attempts to integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences that complement and extend classroom learning. These communities foster faculty and resident interaction that enhances both intellectual and personal growth of the residents. Each community area of interest is structured so students have a high degree of involvement in its formation.
